How much should you pay for a good mattress? The price of a mattress can vary greatly depending on the brand and the type of padding. What are the different price ranges? What are the prices practiced by the market?
Polyether foam
In general, the only options available to those with a tighter budget are thin mattresses, often made of polyether foam. Polyether foam is a foam derived from polyurethane, and is not very dense. It is generally used for extra beds, as it is not very comfortable. You will need to pay a little over €100 for a standard single mattress (90 x 190 cm), and around €250 for a standard double mattress (140 x 190 cm).Polyurethane foam
For a more efficient mattress, suitable for daily sleeping, we generally opt for a polyurethane foam mattress, denser, offering better support to the back. It will then be necessary to count 300 € for a standard size single mattress, 90×190 cm, and 600 € for a standard double mattress, i.e. 140×190 cm.High-end mattresses
For a high-end mattress, the choice is generally made between three materials: memory foam, pocket springs and natural latex.Memory foam
This very popular foam can sometimes be found at attractive prices (€200 for a standard size double mattress), but you shouldn't expect miracles. For a more high-end and more durable memory foam mattress, you will have to pay €650 for a standard double bed. For a queen size bed (160×200 cm), prices start at €800. Logically, prices increase with the size of the mattress.Pocket springs
The pocket spring mattress is also very popular. For this type of technology, prices can vary between €600 for a 90 x 190 cm mattress, and more than €1,000 for a two-person model. However, all of these mattresses, which represent 90% of mattresses sold, contain polyurethane. This petrochemical derivative contains materials that can emit VOCs (volatile organic compounds). They are a major source of indoor pollution, and are toxic and dangerous to health. These materials are also very polluting during manufacturing and at the end of their life.Natural latex
The only healthy, natural and safe mattress padding is natural latex. Made from rubber tree sap, it has many advantages: constant thermoregulation, comfort that adapts to all body types, a naturally anti-mite and antibacterial material, without needing to be treated. Natural latex also has a strong sleeping independence: the partner's movements are absorbed and are not felt, which considerably improves sleep. Most natural mattress brands offer prices between €600 and €1500 depending on the size.Alba mattresses
The Alba mattress brand, however, fights to defend purchasing power, and to sell 100% natural latex mattresses at prices well below those usually charged. However, Alba makes no concessions on quality, as can be attested by the many labels certifying its products. If Alba offers mattresses as close as possible to the workshop price, around 40% lower than the market, it is thanks to the 4 principles that it applies daily: - Web exclusive: alba can only be purchased online, to exclude from its price the numerous costs associated with physical points of sale.- Studied volume: alba commits to large volumes with its workshops in order to reduce the unit cost as much as possible and thus offer its customers the best value for money.
- Optimized advertising: alba relies on the oldest marketing in the world: word of mouth. Thanks to this, its customers do not suffer the impact of excessive advertising costs.
- Small team: Alba benefits from a versatile and small team, focused on the best product, with the best service.
Maison Alba currently offers two mattresses: the Original model , made up of a 100% natural latex base, and the Pearl model , 100% natural. Both products have 7 comfort zones located at strategic points on the body, allowing the spine to remain straight and thus avoid back problems. The cover, removable and machine washable, is made of OEKO-TEX certified tencel. Also called lyocell, this natural material derived from wood pulp is often compared to silk due to its lightness and resistance.
