How to properly adjust your heating at night?

After a long day, all we want to do is get back into bed! However, to get the best possible hours of sleep, it is important to take care of your sleep. In fact, the hours spent sleeping are recovery phases from which it is important to get the best sleep. And for this, choosing an optimal temperature is extremely important. The heating setting must therefore be changed at night compared to during the day.

What is the ideal temperature for a room at night?

The optimal temperature for sleeping well in summer

In summer, high temperatures can lead to night sweats. Even colds, which you might not think you could catch in summer, are not uncommon! It is therefore recommended, if possible, to sleep with the window open in summer, to circulate the air as much as possible. If you still feel too hot, you can swap your duvet for a simple sheet, to use as a blanket.
During the day, it is ideal to close the shutters and keep the bedroom in constant darkness, to prevent the sun's rays from heating the room even more. This helps to keep temperatures as low as possible.

The optimal temperature for sleeping well in winter

In winter, wrapped up in a duvet to protect yourself from the cold outside, it can be tempting to leave the heating on all night to keep warm. However, this is strongly discouraged! Indeed, the heat from the radiator can make the air drier. This could result in a sore throat the next day, as well as a weaker immune system! In addition, the artificial heat from the radiator can slow down the body's ability to regenerate.
However, sleeping in a room that is too cold is not good either. Those who are cold in winter should therefore rather rely on thick socks and warm pajamas!

What is the impact of heating on energy consumption?

If you have a gas, propane or oil boiler, do not turn it off completely at night. These models work very well at a constant temperature, but consume much more during high heat.
If you have low-energy electric radiators, it is recommended to turn them down by 3 to 4°C when you go to sleep. Each degree increases the bill by almost 7%, which is not insignificant.
If you are cold, the best choice to make is to invest in a good duvet: it will pay for itself very quickly.

What is the difference between your room and the rest of the accommodation?

Each room in your home has a different function, and is therefore inhabited at a different time each day. This is why it is recommended to adjust the temperature of each room!
